Community Raises $25,000 for Ghana Water Project
Community exceeds fundraising goal, raising $25,000 for clean water wells in rural GaDangme communities in Ghana.
Thanks to the generous support of our community, the GaDangme Kpee Association has successfully raised $25,000 for the construction of clean water wells in rural GaDangme communities in Ghana. The fundraising campaign, which ran for six months, exceeded its original goal of $20,000 through community dinners, cultural performances, and individual donations.
The funds will support the installation of three solar-powered water wells in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions of Ghana, directly benefiting over 2,000 people in the villages of Dodowa, Prampram, and Shai Hills. Each well will be equipped with modern filtration systems and solar pumps to ensure sustainable, clean water access.
The project emerged from consultations with traditional chiefs and community leaders in Ghana who identified water scarcity as a critical need affecting health, education, and economic development. Many residents, particularly women and children, currently walk miles daily to fetch water from questionable sources.
"Water is life, and this project will transform entire communities," said Association President Naa Ayorkor Adjei during the campaign celebration. "Our ancestors built strong communities through collective action, and we continue that tradition by supporting our relatives across the Atlantic."
The fundraising efforts included sold-out community dinners featuring traditional GaDangme cuisine, cultural performances by local dance groups, and individual contributions from members and supporters. Local businesses also sponsored portions of the project.
Construction will begin in the next quarter, with completion expected by December 2025. The association plans to send a delegation to Ghana for the dedication ceremonies and to establish ongoing maintenance partnerships with local communities.
